Per Efamed tab Salbutamol sulfate 2 mg. Per 5 mL Efamed syr Salbutamol sulfate 2 mg. Per 2.5 mL Efamed soln for nebulization Salbutamol sulfate 2.5 mg. Per Efamed Plus tab Guaifenesin 100 mg, salbutamol sulfate 2 mg. Per 5 mL Efamed Plus syr Guaifenesin 50 mg, salbutamol sulfate 1 mg
Indications/Uses
Efamed tab/syr Relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema & other reversible obstructive pulmonary disease. Efamed soln for nebulization Routine management of chronic bronchospasm unresponsive to conventional therapy & treatment of acute severe asthma. Efamed Plus tab/syr Treatment or prevention of bronchospasm. Relief of resp obstruction & improves pulmonary ventilation. Resp disorders complicated by bronchospasm & excessive secretion of tenacious mucus eg, bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis & emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Efamed tab 1-2 tab tid-qid. Efamed syr Adult 10 mL tid-qid. Childn >12 yr 5-10 mL, 6-12 yr 5 mL, 2-6 yr 2.5-5 mL. To be taken tid-qid. Efamed soln for nebulization Adult & childn >18 mth 2.5-5 mg, repeated up to qid. Childn <18 mth 2.5 mg up to qid or more frequently in severe cases. Efamed Plus tab 1 tab every 4-6 hr. Efamed Plus syr Childn 6-12 yr 10 mL every 4 hr, 2-6 yr 5 mL every 4 hr.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Efamed Patients suffering from thyrotoxicosis. Patients under treatment w/ β-blockers. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Efamed tab/syr Concomitant use w/ nonselective β-blockers eg, propranolol. Efamed soln for nebulization Hyperthyroidism, myocardial insufficiency, arrhythmias, susceptibility to QT-interval prolongation, HTN & DM; severe asthma. Monitor K conc in severe asthma. Not appropriate for use alone in the treatment of more than mild asthma. Stop immediately if pulmonary edema develops. Ischemic heart disease, eclampsia & preeclampsia. Efamed Plus tab/syr Reflex bradycardia.
Adverse Reactions
Efamed/Efamed Plus tab/syr Tremor of skeletal muscle, feeling of tension.
Drug Interactions
Efamed tab/syr Increased risk of hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, diuretics & xanthines. Efamed Plus tab/syr Propranolol.
